71 Irregular Migrants Left To Die By Greek Assets Were Rescued and Dead Bodies Of 6 Irregular Migrants Were Detected Off The Coast Of Muğla

On September 13, 2022, at 00:10, after receiving the information that there was a group of irregular migrants in life boats off the coast of Marmaris/Kızılburun, 2 Coast Guard Boats were immediately dispatched to the scene of the incident and a total of 64 (31 Lebanon, 30 Syria, 3 Palestine) irregular migrants were rescued from the 3 life boats detected and 2 migrant organizers (2 Lebanon) were apprehended.
 
Upon learning the initial information obtained from the irregular migrants that they were pushed back into Turkish territorial waters by the Greek assets in a total of 4 life boats , 1 Coast Guard Helicopter, 1 Coast Guard Aircraft and 1 additional Coast Guard Boat were immediately dispatched to the scene of the incident. 
 
As a result of search and rescue operations 7 (4 Palestine, 3 Syria) irregular migrants holding on to 1 life boat were rescued and the dead bodies of 6 (2 Babies, 2 Children, 2 Adult Female of Syrian nationality) irregular migrants were taken from the sea surface around the life boat. After the irregular migrants rescued from the semi-submerged life boat declared that there were a total of 18 migrant in the life boat, the search for 5 irregular migrants who were considered to be missing is still ongoing with 1 Coast Guard Helicopter and 2 Coast Guard Boats.
 
In the detailed interview with the irregular migrants, it was stated that the migrants set out from Tripoli/Lebanon on 10 September 2022 with a 15-meter-long wooden boat to go to Italy, and requested assistance from the Greek security forces after their fuel ran out off the coast of Rhodes on 12 September 2022. It was learned that after they were put on a Greek Coast Guard Boat and their valuables were taken, they were put on a total of 4 life boats at a location close to Turkish territorial waters and left to drift.
